Cortana is Microsoft’s digital assistant and can be used to complete a number of tasks on the computer using vocal input alone. Acting as a true personal assistant, Cortana has been around for quite some time now and the Windows community has grown to like her but also get more accustomed to her. Unfortunately, the new Creators Update has gotten Cortana to act out and misbehave if anyone tries to shut her down.

User okinawanwarrior on Reddit took the time to warn their fellow Windows 10 Creators Update users about the dangers of disabling Cortana through either Powershell or group policies. Here is their comment about the situation and why taking the aforementioned actions is a bad idea.

This seems to be just one of the many problems that have surfaced since Microsoft brought out the Creators Update. It is yet unknown how many total problems have occurred since the update, but the community is certainly not pleased with the increasing number so far.

Since I made this post I was trying to find a method to disable Cortana which I do not have so much of use. Disabling Cortana through group policy will always break the Search in my VMs and my Laptop in every installation. So yeah I had to do many writes in my SSD to figure this out.

If you want to disable Cortana always disable it from the registry or follow this guide here. You don’t need to apply the other tweaks if you are not interested in. I consistently not breaking my Search when I apply the registry modification.

I really want to know what other people have to say. Did you disable Cortana through Group Policies and break your Search (i.e Can’t locate newly installed apps)?
