If you live in an apartment, your peephole is the only way for you to identify who is on the other side of your door. Ring has just the device to attach to your peephole for more security.

Do you need a peephole for a Ring Doorbell? For a regular Ring Doorbell, it does not matter if you have a peephole or not. The Ring Peephole Cam works with a compatible peephole already in place as if it were your Ring Doorbell.

The Ring Peephole Cam works the same way as a Ring Doorbell does. It still has most of the same features as the doorbell and a few new features that you can learn about.

Do You Need a Peephole?

For a home that has windows everywhere and a doorbell that has already been converted into a Ring Doorbell, you will not need a peephole. For those that live on properties like a condo or an apartment, you may find it difficult to view the person who knocks at your door.

The camera’s design has three components:

  • PeepholeHD CameraButton

With the Ring Peephole Cam, there is still a regular peephole that comes with the camera. So, while you may be able to look at the other person, they cannot see inside of your space. Ring has implanted privacy shields into the peephole for added security.

This camera is able to detect knocks on your door and the HD camera will let you see who is there. Just like the Ring Doorbell, you can view who is in front of your camera with your smartphone or tablet. The Ring App still gives you the ability to talk and record who you are speaking with.

The large black button at the bottom allows those that may not want to knock to automatically show up as a push notification on your phone. The Ring Peephole Cam with play a tune just like the Ring Doorbell and a notification will be sent to your phone.

The Ring Peephole Cam has several features that will make an apartment renter feel safer. These features include:

  • HD VideoTwo-Way TalkKnock DetectionAdjustable Motion ZonesCompatibility with AlexaCustomizable Privacy Settings

You can also choose where you want your motion sensors to start detecting a person. If you live in a busy building, you will not want your camera to continuously alert you through the Ring App every time someone passes by your door.

Nor would you want recorded audio from a neighboring room across the hall. Your motion detection and audio outreach can be controlled to only give you information on what pertains to you.

The Ring Peephole Cam is powered by one removable, rechargeable battery. This gives you more freedom than a hardwired camera whenever you switch homes or apartments. The battery only needs to be charged every other month, as it will power down a bit to save battery.
