If you’ve been experiencing USB issues after recently upgrading your computer, we’ve got some good news for you. Microsoft recently rolled out a new Windows 10 patch to fix this problem.

Update KB4090913 is available for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and you can download it automatically through Windows Update or get the stand-alone package from Microsoft’s Update Catalog.

So, if your USB mouse and keyboard occasionally stop working, download this update to quickly solve the problem.

As Microsoft explains, these USB issues were triggered by outdated rivers.

Here is the official update description:

KB4090913 issues

Addresses an issue in which some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard, or mouse, stop working. This may occur when the Windows Update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.

At the same time, Microsoft acknowledged that KB4090913 brings some bugs of its own. For example, you may get error 0x80070643 during install.

Many users also reported that error 0x800f081f prevented them from installing the update.

Fortunately, you can fix this error by following the troubleshooting steps available in this guide.

I am having problems with the display resolution(s) and “Display Settings” sees 3 monitors instead of two, and the monitor size is incorrect. I have also just tried to install 2018-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4090913) and received Error 0x800f081f.

Other users couldn’t install this patch due to error 0x80240031. Again, we do have a dedicated troubleshooting guide on how to fix error 0x80240031, so do follow the instructions available there to fix the problem.

Second, if your antivirus is not updated the ALLOW REGKEY, then the install process may fail.

The third known issue is even more severe as some devices may fail to start and return the error message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Fixing this error may take more time, but we did list a series of solutions in this troubleshooting guide.
