December 2019 Patch Tuesday cycle is just a couple of weeks away, Microsoft has already rolled out monthly rollup previews for Windows 7 (KB4525251) and Windows 8.1 (KB4525252).

Both of them are non-security updates that bring improvements and bug fixes included in November Patch Tuesday edition. As a quick reminder, make sure you install the latest SSU (Service Stack Update) before downloading KB4525251 and KB4525252, respectively.The previews of the monthly rollups are now available as optional updates.

KB4525251/KB4525252 changelog

The official changelog reads:

  • Addresses an issue with evaluating the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows.

KB4525251 packs an additional change, you can download the update to resolve an issue with netdom.exe.

  • Addresses an issue in which netdom.exe fails to correctly identify trust relationships when an unconstrained delegation is explicitly enabled by adding bitmask 0x800 to the trust object. The bitmask setting is required because of security changes to the default behavior of unconstrained delegations in Windows updates released on or after July 8, 2019.

KB4525251/KB4525252 issues

Microsoft is not aware of any issues concerning KB4525251. However, Microsoft acknowledged only one issue with KB4525252.

  • Microsoft warned its users that they may encounter the error “STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL (0xC00000A5)”. It happens when you try to perform certain operations on files or folders that are on a Cluster Shared Volume.

The big M advised its users that they should use the process with administrator privileges to perform the operation.
