The easiest way to fix WIFI issues for the Echo Dot is by following these tips:
Not sure how to troubleshoot your device and see which fix to try? We will go over all the details in this article. We will also discuss permanent solutions to make sure your Echo Dot 4th Generation always stays online.
Check Your Internet Connection
Try using your phone, computer, or other devices that you have connected to the internet and see if they work. If nothing is connecting to the WIFI, you can bet the issue is with your service provider or router.
Call your internet company and ask if there are outages or issues in your area. If not, you might be experiencing problems with your router. You can try some fixes at home or ask someone from support from the internet company to come to your home.
If other devices are working, but the Echo Dot will not connect, the problem probably is with the Dot itself.
Restart Your Router
If you think the problem is with your router, you need to restart it.
Here’s how:
- Unplug the router from the wall. Wait five minutes. Plug it back in. Check if the Echo Dot is working now.
You can also press down the start button, wait 5 minutes, then press the power button again to get the router to restart.
Restart Your Echo Dot
If all your other devices seem to be working, the issue might not be with your WIFI.
In this case, you will want to restart your Echo Dot:
- Power off or unplug the Echo Dot. Wait a few minutes. Turn it back on or plug it back in. Reconnect to the WIFI. See if the Echo Dot works now.
If you tried the above and the Echo Dot is still not connecting, there are a few other things you can try.
Move the Router Closer to the Echo Dot
Depending on your WIFI company, your Echo Dot might be out of range of the WIFI. Some routers are able to work at longer distances than others. Contact your internet company and see if there is a certain range for your router.
If you live in a large home, you might need to get a router extension that can be placed closer to the Echo Dot.
Remove Objects/Devices Interfering With the Signal
You should also check for any potential obstacles. For example, if there are too many walls between your Echo Dot and the router. Concrete walls and brick walls tend to have the most problems when it comes to WIFI signals.
FM radios and baby monitors can also interfere with signals. Consider turning these things off when you don’t need them so that your Echo Dot will work better.
Reset Your Echo Dot to Factory Settings
This is usually considered a last resort option. Resetting your Echo Dot to factory settings erases all your data including your WIFI information. Once you have reset the device, you will need to set up your device again from scratch which can be time-consuming and annoying.
Each Echo Dot has different instructions for resetting, here are the instructions for the Echo Dot 4:
- Press and hold the action button for 20 seconds. Wait for the light ring to turn off and then back on again. Your device will now be in setup mode.
If you forgot how to set up your Echo Dot, you can follow these instructions.
If you think the problem is with your router or internet connection, consider contacting the company.
Can You Use Alexa Without WIFI?
