Alexa can be a very useful voice assistant. She can set alarms, give reminders, and look for information that you need, all without you lifting a finger. This technology is really amazing and convenient. However, Alexa can get annoying, especially when she gives “By the way…” chats. This leads users to ask, how do I turn off the “Alexa for your Day” function?

Listening to Alexa tell you that she can turn off all the lights, not just a single light, or search things online for you when all you asked was for one simple task to be done, can be annoying. When we are done using Alexa, we prefer her silence. If you are one of those people who can’t wait to stop this insanity, read on to learn more about what you can do.

Silence Isn’t the Answer

To lessen the effects of Alexa for the Day, the user must go into the settings, and switch off different types of functionality. This will lessen the number of times Alexa impedes your day and provides you with “By the way…” information you never wanted in the first place.

But which settings should you adjust? How does each setting affect the outcome? Keep reading to find out the different setting extremes you can choose to get Alexa to stop and be silent for a while.

Goodbye Things to Try

“Things to Try” is the number one setting a user should turn off in their Echo Show. This will limit the number of times Alexa interrupts your day with her extra tidbits to ‘help’ you out. This function is hidden in the depths of the Echo Show settings so it may not be easy to find. Here are instructions to get to it and turn it off:

  • Grab the nearest device with the Alexa App installed on itOpen the Alexa AppGo to the top left menu button (the three lines) and tap itSelect settingsSelect notificationsSelect Things to TryTap to turn off the Alexa device notifications

Things to Try should officially be able. There will be fewer “By the way…” statements because you have turned off the initial source that creates them. Although this will not turn off all the “Alexa for your Day” functions, it will help out tremendously.

Turn off Rotate Continuously

When the Echo Show scrolls and rotates continuously, it just provides more fuel for the “Alexa for the Day” flames. Another way to minimize this disruption is to turn off the option for the Echo Show to scroll or rotate information continuously. Follow these steps to get it to stay in one spot:

  • Tap and hold the top of the screen and swipe down.Select settings.Pick the home screen menu.Select home screen preferences.Find rotation and then select rotate once.Go back to the home screen. It will rotate until it hits the clock screen and will not rotate anymore.

Once the rotation stops the suggestions on the screen will also mostly stop. This is handy if you prefer to use the clock on the Echo Show to tell time, or if you want a better aesthetic look. Many people also find that this limits the number of times Alexa interrupts their day with suggestions.

Release Your Inner Child

Once the device is in Kids Mode, you will not be interrupted like Echo Show’s regular mode. This is because different rules regulate these devices for the use of children. If you can live with some censored music but full capability, you will be on your way to more peace in no time.

The Sound of Silence

Although you cannot prevent the Alexa for Your Day function completely, you can make it more tolerable. Sometimes, it is even nice to have this feature as Alexa can teach you something new. For those who are severely against it, there is always Kids Mode.
