Microsoft introduced the first set of extensions for Microsoft Edge a few weeks ago in build 14291 for Windows 10 Preview. Now, with the latest build 14316 released, Microsoft Edge is enjoying two new extensions.
Edge users are now able to use the Pin It Button and OneNote Clipper extensions in Microsoft Edge. Alongside these new extensions, Microsoft also updated a few other Edge extensions: Mouse Gestures, Reddit Enhancement Suite, and Translator. If you want to install any extensions on your Microsoft Edge browser, go to the three dotted menu, open the Extensions pane, and click “Get extensions”.
“A few weeks ago, we announced the availability of extension support for Microsoft Edge with more on the way. Today, we are excited to share with you some new extensions that you can try out – Pin It Button and OneNote Clipper. In addition, we have updated versions of Reddit Enhancement Suite, Mouse Gestures, and Microsoft Translator.”
The Pin It Button allows you to save your favorite images from across the internet to your Pinterest profile. It basically works like any other Pinterest plug-in, and is very practical for storing images quickly. The OneNote Clipper extension allows you to clip any web page and use it in a OneNote note or save it to your OneDrive account.

As pointed out on the Edge Extensions page, these two extensions are only available in build 14316. If you decide to downgrade to the previous release, these extensions will be removed. Additionally, Gabe Aul warned users that extensions from the previous build that are already installed might not work in build 14316. To solve that problem, just reinstall all extensions.
More extensions to come to Microsoft Edge soon
Both the OneNote Clipper and Pin It Button make the total number of extensions five, all of which are available to download in the Edge browser. In the end, though, users will agree that this is not enough, as a higher variety of extensions is needed to make Microsoft Edge not only easier to use but more competitive.
As these features were introduced only a couple weeks ago, Microsoft is still testing it. We’re sure that the company will release many more extensions once they’re ready and once the browser is fully optimized for them.
Besides Microsoft’s in-house extensions, a lot of developers are also interested in releasing their own third-party extensions. Two big names, AdBlock Plus and LastPass, have already confirmed that their Edge extensions are in the works, so we should expect them to arrive this year. However, it seems unlikely that Microsoft will include third-party Edge extensions into the browser while this feature is in the preview phase. As such, the most realistic release date for third-party extensions is some time after the Anniversary Update’s release. Additionally, Microsoft is also preparing a tool which will allow developers to easily port their Chrome extensions to Microsoft Edge. So, a lot of extensions are coming to Microsoft Edge — the only question is: when?
