Users can use permissions for anything from granting administrative privileges to the ability to edit messages. Permissions are determined based on the roles assigned to users on the server and channel. With category permissions, users have synced or not-synced channels.

Permissions will match the category with a synced channel, however, the permissions will differ for a not-synced channel. Follow the steps below to change a channel to a synced channel.

Why are my permissions not syncing with categories in Discord?

If you move a channel across categories without synced permissions, then it will not automatically sync when you make changes to the category’s permissions. This error may also occur if you adjust individual permissions on a channel.

Any time the not-synced channel does not have the same permissions as the category, then it will not sync automatically. Users can fix this by changing it to a synced channel.

If you’re having issues with Discord not opening in Windows 10 or 11, we offer solutions for that issue as well.
