Updating your operating system to a newer Windows 10, Windows 8.1 version might have a negative effect on your all-in-one printer. Many Windows 8 and Windows 10 users are having a lot of issues with the scanning feature. In this article we’ll show you how to fix your printer if it does not scan in Windows 8 or Windows 10.

You will need to be aware that if your printer does not work in Windows 8 or Windows 10, it isn’t always because of the operating system. It might very well be a hardware failure on the multifunctional printer or perhaps the USB cable is unplugged on your Windows device’s end or on the printers end. 1. Check your USB cable and printer

  • Check your USB cable from the printer to the Windows device and be sure it is plugged in.

  • Check if your printer is running in normal parameters and all the lights are on.

  • Check and see if you can print a document so that we resume ourselves only to the scanning feature of the printer.

2. Update your printer drivers

  • Press and hold the “Windows” button and the “R” button.

  • You should have in front of you the “Run” window now.

  • Write in the run window the following: “devmgmt.msc”.

  • Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard or left click on the “OK” button within the “Run” window.

  • Now you have opened the “Device manager” window.

  • In the left side of that window you should have the “Scan” feature.

  • Note: If you do not find it in the list you can double click or tap on the “Other devices” feature and you should have it under that topic.

  • Right click on the “Scan” icon you have in the device manager window and left click on the “Update Driver software” option.

  • Now you should have in front of you a window in which you need to left click on the “Browser my computer for driver software”.

  • In the next window you will need to left click or tap on the “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer” feature.

  • You should get to a window in which you will need to look in the left sided list for “Imaging devices”.

  • Left click or tap on “imaging devices” and left click or tap on the “next” button situated in the lower right side of the screen.

  • In the next window you should have on the left side a list of manufacturer’s in which you will need to left click on the manufacturer of your printer.

  • On the right side you need to select the model of the scanner you are using.

  • After you selected all the above left-click or tap on the “Next” button.

  • You should get to another warning window in which you need to left click on the “Yes” button.

  • After the update is completed you need to left click on the “Close” button.

  • Disconnect and connect the USB from the printer.

  • Reboot your Windows 8 or Windows 10 device.

  • Try scanning something after the restart of the operating system is finished.

3. Get the latest printer drivers from the manufacturer’s website

Look on the manufacturer’s website for a Windows 8 or Windows 10 compatible driver for the printer. If there is a new driver listed for your operating system, then uninstall the current one and install the latest one.

Note: If you installed a new driver for the printer, reboot your OS and try again to see if you can scan a document.

4. Run the Printer Troubleshooter

If the problem persists, try running the built-in Printer Troubleshooter. On Windows 8.1, you can quickly locate this tool by opening the Control Panel. Type ‘troubleshoot’ in the search menu, select Troubleshooting and then select View All in the left-hand pane to list all the troubleshooting tools. Select and run the Printer troubleshooter.

On Windows 10, simply go to Settings > Update & Security > select Troubleshoot > select and run the Printer troubleshooter, as shown in the screenshot below.
